What's the story?

Former Women's Champion Melina will be making her in-ring return for Australian Wrestling Entertainment on March 23rd, 2018.

This will be her first match since suffering a knee injury in England last March.

In case you didn't know...

Melina Perez' contributions to the Women's division have always been overshadowed by her infamous love triangle involving Batista and John Morrison.

Credited for having some of the best offensive moves in the business, Bret Hart called Melina as one of the best wrestlers in the world when she was on top of the WWE Women's division.

Perez has won the Divas title twice while also holding the Women's Championship on three different occasions. She worked her final match for WWE on August 1st, 2011 before being released the subsequent week.

She turned towards the independent wrestling circuit and has been plying her trade there ever since.

The heart of the matter

The former Divas Champion will take on Shazza Mckinzie for the Australian promotion in Sydney, the details of which are provided below:

Perez would be returning to the squared circle for the first time in almost a year after recovering from a career-threatening knee injury. The former valet of MNM dislocated her knee in Match last year and spoke about how she had almost lost hope of ever wrestling again after the setback:

What's next?

AWE Champion Vinnie Vain and Psykotic will also be in action at the event that is being headlined by the former WWE Women's Superstar.

The promotion has also lined up another show scheduled to take place in May and have roped in Chavo Guererro for the main event.

Author's take

When all is said and done, Melina will go down as one of the most underrated figures in the Women's revolution of WWE. After all, she is the first ever woman to win both the Divas and Women's Championships and is still going strong at the age of 39.

WWE should consider getting her back for the Women's Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34, don't you think so?
