What’s the story?

Earlier today, top Independent promotion Chikara Pro confirmed the news that former WWE Superstars and members of The Nexus faction Darren Young, Michael Tarver and Justin Gabriel will be competing at this year’s Chikara: King of Trios tournament.

In case you didn’t know…

The Nexus made their WWE debut back in 2010 during the main event of an episode of Monday Night Raw in a match that featured CM Punk going head-to-head against John Cena. Led by British superstar Wade Barrett, The Nexus did not waste any time in making an impact in the WWE as they laid waste to every WWE Superstar or on-air personnel that tried to put a halt to the group’s dominance.

The original Nexus was an eight-man stable and initially consisted of Wade Barrett, Daniel Bryan, Darren Young, Skip Sheffield, Michael Tarver, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, and David Otunga. However, in 2011, former WWE Champion CM Punk took charge of the group and brought in a few new faces to the faction, such as Husky Harris (now Bray Wyatt), Michael McGillicutty, and Mason Ryan.

The heart of the matter

As per announced by Chikara Pro, this year’s annual Chikara: King of Trios tournament will feature a reunion of the former Nexus members PJ Black aka Justin Gabriel, Michael Tarver, and recently released WWE Superstar Darren Young, together billed as The Nexus Alliance, as they get set to enter the 11th King of Trios tournament in Chikara’s history.

Additionally, as noted, this will also be Darren Young’s first post-WWE appearance ever since being released from his WWE contract back in October 2017. Meanwhile, PJ Black and Michael Tarver have been working all around the globe for promotions such as Lucha Underground and NJPW respectively.

What’s next?

This year’s Chikara: King of Trios tournament will begin on the 31st of August and will conclude on 2nd September.

Author’s take

I believe The Nexus Alliance will definitely be one of the favorites to win this year’s Chikara: King of Trios tournament and will follow up the British Strong Style’s success from last year’s King of Trios tournament.
