Shane McMahon faced the Miz in a Steel Cage match at Money in the Bank. This match was meant to be the last match of their feud before both of them move on to different opponents.

Shane eventually won the match after he slipped through the hands of the Miz from the top of the Steel Cage when the latter attempted a Superplex. He fell from the top of the Steel Cage and got laid out when he hit the floor, but he won the match via escape from the Cage.

There was a spot in their match where the Miz hit the Skull Crushing Finale on Shane McMahon on to the steel chair, but Shane put his leg on the ropes which prompted the referee to break the count even though those rules doesn't apply inside the Steel Cage.

Here are three potential reasons why Shane McMahon picked up the victory over the Miz.

#3 To build him to face Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns is rumored to face Shane McMahon next at the Super ShowDown event in Saudi Arabia. It was one of the reasons why he got paired with the Miz during the build-up of his feud with Elias.

After a win over Elias, Shane is the Boss level opponent (no pun intended) for Reigns. When a part-timer faces a mainstay, he needs to have a considerable amount of momentum.

Shane McMahon's match against Roman Reigns looks weak on paper as Shane doesn't come out as a threat to a multi-time WrestleMania headliner such as Roman Reigns. A win against the Miz provides him some momentum to go up against Roman Reigns.

While the result is expected to be same but at least after two consecutive victories over the Miz, Shane proved that he could pull off an upset at the next PPV as well.

#2 Shane hasn't won a singles feud since his return

Since his return, Shane fought a lot of marquee matches against the likes of Undertaker, AJ Styles, and others but he failed to win even a single feud against any of them.

The only feud he won was against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn when he joined hands with Daniel Bryan to take on the duo. The feud in itself was a win for Daniel Bryan rather than Shane McMahon.

The only other significant win Shane racked up was the Crown Jewel's "Best in the World" tournament in which he joined in only in the last few minutes of the tournament. Thus, it doesn't qualify as a feud win.

A feud against the Miz was the best shot for Shane to score a feud victory as wins and losses don't affect the Miz.

#1 To garner more heel heat for Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon remained a face since his return to WWE. His turn against the Miz coupled with the tag of "Best in the World" gives him the chance to become a new version of Mr. McMahon.

The evil boss character was made famous by his father and the Chairman of the company, Vince McMahon and Shane strives to continue the legacy as Vince can't take part in in-ring action anymore due to his age.

The crowd at Hartford Connecticut cheered the Miz with all their might and desperately wanted him to get one over his boss. The referee's mistake to break the pin when the same rules don't apply to a Steel Cage match surely ties in with the fear of the boss, as Corey Graves explained.

With a sneaky win, Shane garnered more heel heat from the crowd which he needs for his next feud.
