Tonight's 205 Live looks like it'll be huge

What's the story?

205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick has taken to Twitter to tease the contents of tonight's show, airing on WWE Network immediately after SmackDown Live finishes.

Maverick has hyped up a match he intends to make official, as well as confirming that a Superstar will return to the show tonight.

In case you didn’t know…

205 Live has undergone a complete overhaul in 2018 - where we've witnessed the character development and storytelling catch up very quickly to the hugely impressive in-ring action since Triple H has been at the helm creatively.

For the past couple of months, 205 Live has centred around a tournament for the vacant Cruiserweight Championship which saw Cedric Alexander triumph over Mustafa Ali at WrestleMania before successfully defending his title in Saudi Arabia at the Greatest Royal Rumble.

While we very rarely see the Cruiserweights on Raw, 205 Live has become that much more special, and some might say has been an even better show since the culmination of the tournament and with the ever-present rumour that Tag Team Championships may soon be a feature on the show.

The heart of the matter

205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick took to social media to tell everyone to stay tuned for updates regarding tonight's show - confirming that he'll be signing off on a match and a Superstar will be returning to the show.

Maverick, though, wasn't giving away all his plans - with no word on who the Superstars mentioned are, nor even whether the return is someone returning to the company, returning to television or returning from injury. Many believe the Superstar returning may be Noam Dar - but the possibilities are endless, with speculation rife that Neville may be ready to return to the company. In fact, there are even suggestions Tajiri may be about to make his return.

One strong rumour for the match to be made, though, is that we may see Kalisto, fresh off of his Championship match at the Greatest Royal Rumble, go up against Drew Gulak after Gulak tweeted yesterday that he wants the match.

What's next?

205 Live airs on WWE Network immediately following SmackDown Live tonight.

Author's take

Well, I'm a huge fan of 205 Live these days. I mean, the talent always had it and the matches were always solid - but the purple brand just seemed to have that something missing up until the overhaul, and now the entertainment side of the show has well and truly played catch up on the fantastic athleticism on display.

With the Cruiserweights now almost exclusively appearing on 205 Live, it's made the show very special again rather than having an awkward segment on RAW where the ropes and lighting would be turned purple. Not to mention having a seemingly cursed Championship belt that's seen the most prominent holders all disappear from the company.

While Neville has the longest reign with the title at a very dominant 197 days, we haven't seen the King in over six months - and he really would be a coup if he reappeared on the show.

With TJ Perkins, The Brian Kendrick and Akira Tozawa all having reigns that lasted way too short, the other two notable champions are Enzo Amore and Rich Swann, neither of whom are no longer with the company due to very different reasons than those of Neville - but with Cedric Alexander atop the division and several top talents chasing glory, it looks like 205 Live is truly going from strength to strength in 2018!
