WWE News: Adam Cole discusses being cheered as a heel

Ky
Kyle O'Reilly, Adam Cole, and Bobby Fish of The Undisputed Era...

What's the story?

The Undisputed Era's Adam Cole spoke with Newsweek recently to promote NXT Takeover: New Orleans later this evening on the WWE Network. During the interview, they mentioned Cole's popularity despite being on the of the top heels of NXT. (h/t to Wrestling Inc.)

In case you didn't know...

Cole is the only person in Ring Of Honor history to win the ROH World Championship three times. He joins Jay Briscoe and Austin Aries as the only people to have multiple reigns with the title.

The heart of the matter...

Newsweek asked Cole if it was difficult being a heel despite getting some of the best pops from the NXT Universe.

He admitted that it can be difficult at times, but in 2018, the landscape of professional wrestling is completely different.

"Before things were so black and white, now it's shades of grey. It's not so much good guys and bad guys, there are people who are put in situations who do the right or wrong things, but people react to them like they are stars. And I feel that creates a really cool wrestling show."

Cole does state that even though the NXT Universe loves to say ADAM COLE BAY BAY along with him, they still will boo him in certain situations where he is doing heelish things to a babyface.

He ended the thought by saying that he's come to terms with the fans being appreciative of what he's accomplished throughout his career and jokingly seemed to welcome the boos when he executes actions fitting of a "big ol' jerk."

What's next?

We are just hours away from NXT Takeover: New Orleans where Cole may have two matches on the five-match card.

At the time of this writing, Cole is scheduled to tag with Kyle O'Reilly in the triple threat tag team match against Pete Dunne & Roderick Strong and The Authors of Pain where the winner takes him both the NXT Tag Team Championships and the Dusty Cup.

He will also be one of the six competitors in the ladder match for the brand new NXT North American Championship.

Also in the match are Ricochet, EC3, Killian Dain, Lars Sullivan, and Velveteen Dream.

Author's take...

I think Cole has a great perspective on the reactions of the NXT Universe towards him today. It's hard not to cheer someone that talented, but he shows just how talented he is by performing actions that will make those same people turn around and boo him later.

I think once NXT Takeover: New Orleans is said and done, The Undisputed Era will add one more piece of gold to their collection.
