WWE News: Adam Cole talks carrying NXT after recent main roster call ups
What’s the story?
WWE NXT North American Champion and Tag Team Champion Adam Cole was recently on the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast and discussed many topics, including how he feels about being one of the superstars who will carry the roster for the foreseeable future.
In case you didn’t know...
It has become a tradition for WWE to have several main roster call-ups from NXT following one of the big four major pay-per-views, especially WrestleMania, where often at least a dozen NXT superstars are called up to RAW and Smackdown.
This year, post-WrestleMania, WWE called up Drew McIntyre, Andrade "Cien" Almas and Zelina Vega, Ember Moon, SAnitY, No Way Jose, The Authors of Pain and Billie Kay and Peyton Royce.
The heart of the matter
During his appearance on the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast, Adam Cole, spoke about several different topics, including having the pressure of being one of the superstars who will carry the roster for the foreseeable future. Adam said:
"There absolutely is that pressure. Any time guys move to Raw and SmackDown, I think that is what has kept NXT so relevant and has kept the fans so invested because they are now conditioned that whoever leaves or comes in, NXT, as a product, is going to give really exciting sports entertainment every time.
So it does put pressure on guys like me, Aleister Black, Bobby and Kyle and everyone else involved in NXT now. I think that is when guys are at their best, when you put pressure and have something to work towards and have something to compare yourself to, or try to best them, it really does make you better."
Adam also spoke about his growing popularity, his matches at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, and more.
The Undisputed Era will continue their takeover of NXT, and feud with WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne, while Adam will also defend his newly won North American Championship on a regular basis.
Over the past few years, NXT has struggled just a little bit, for a few months following WrestleMania, due to large numbers of call-ups. This time, however, I think the brand is in very capable hands with the like of Adam Cole and his Undisputed Era teammates leading the show, as well as others like NXT Champion Aleister Black, EC3, Shayna Bazler and more.
