What’s the story?

WWE Champion AJ Styles recently spoke with India Today in an exclusive interview during which he talked about ‘The Modern Day Maharaja’ Jinder Mahal’s influence on the current WWE scene and how the former WWE Champion has been doing in WWE over the course of the past few months.

In case you didn’t know…

During last year’s Backlash PPV, Jinder Mahal shocked the entire world by winning the WWE Championship for the first time in his career when he defeated 'The Viper' Randy Orton. During his stint as World Champion, Mahal had a very formidable run with the championship belt, defending it successfully against the likes of Shinsuke Nakamura, Baron Corbin, and Orton as well.

However, on 7th November 2017, Mahal lost the WWE Title to AJ Styles in an episode on Smackdown Live which was taped in Manchester, England as 'The Phenomenal One' brought an end to Mahal’s title reign at 170 days.

The heart of the matter

While speaking with India Today, AJ Styles stated that Jinder Mahal has been doing great for himself in the WWE and has all the attributes in becoming one of the perfect stars in modern WWE. Styles also claimed that Mahal looks and acts like a star.

"Jinder is doing great. He has everything that he has got here. Looks like a star, acts like a star. That's why he is one. He is perfect for the WWE, perfect for India.”- AJ Styles stated.

Moreover, AJ added that Mahal has gone through some tough times in this Pro Wrestling business and deserves every bit of his success after putting in so much hard work to get to the position where he is in today.

“He deserves everything and he has earned everything in the WWE."- AJ Styles stated.

What’s next?

As for AJ Styles, he is currently slated to defend his WWE Title at next month’s Fastlane PPV, following which 'The Phenomenal One' will finally collide against his former NJPW rival Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania 34, in a rematch from Wrestle Kingdom 10.

Author’s Take

Jinder Mahal has certainly put up a lot of hard work to get to his current position in WWE today and to see him win the WWE Championship was one of the most surreal moments in the history of Pro Wrestling.
