What's the story?

We reported yesterday how AJ Styles had to be led to the back after Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens attacked his leg with steel chairs. However, several reports suggested that this was probably a work.

But the WWE Champion has now missed a live event in Odessa, Texas.

In case you didn't know...

After AJ was led to the back ahead of his match at the MSG Live Event, most were under the impression that this was a work until it was reported that the referee reportedly held up the 'X'. It would be highly unusual for the 'X' sign made by the referee to be a part of the work because that is usually reserved as a sign for real injuries.

AJ later came back to the ring to drive off Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens as they attacked 2018 Royal Rumble winner Shinsuke Nakamura.

The heart of the matter

Despite the fact that AJ was led to the back by medics, we still have no word on whether AJ's injury is legit although most of us are still under the impression that it's a work. One interesting update on the situation is the fact that Styles missed last night's Live Event in Odessa, Texas.

Does this prove that AJ is injured? Of course not, but it's an interesting wrinkle in the story.

What's next?

We will learn more about the situation on Tuesday's episode of SmackDown. AJ Styles is still scheduled to face Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania for the WWE Championship.

Author's take

The fact that AJ missed the Odessa Live Event could mean that he's dealing with a niggling injury but it's probably nothing too serious, by the looks of it.
