The Big Dog

The Big Dog vs The Phenomenal One

What's the story?

AJ Styles has worked with a lot of the top names of pro wrestling's modern era. The Phenomenal One recently spoke to CBS Sports' "In This Corner" podcast where he covered many subjects including what it is like working with a very special Superstar: Roman Reigns.

In case you didn't know...

AJ Styles has worked his entire career with the intention of impressing in the ring. He can mold his move set around any competitor and do amazing things in the ring. They don't have phenomenal for no reason after all.

The heart of the matter

Roman Reigns and AJ Styles might be on different brands but they've had a little experience with each other in the ring. CBS Sports' "In This Corner" podcast asked Styles asked what it was like working with the Big Dog.

AJ said when he looks back at his time in the ring with Roman Reigns he sees it as a stepping stone for himself to prove his worth to the WWE Universe. He praised Reigns for being a big name during the time and said he wanted to show they could have a great match.

"Little did I know how great Roman was -- a lot better than most people think. He was outstanding. He's a lot more athletic than people ever knew. He's on another level and I was glad to be in the ring with him to show everybody that he is and that this guy can hang with AJ Styles. To me, it was a great feud."

What's next?

As time goes on maybe AJ Styles and Roman Reigns will cross paths once again. But in the meantime, it appears as though they're going down their own unique paths.

At this rate, if they do ever lock up again in the ring it will be a noteworthy matchup for sure.

Author's take

Roman Reigns and AJ Styles are in a league of their own. Even where they don't necessarily excel they're still worlds better than most. It's no wonder these two worked so well in the ring together.

On another note, maybe people need to stop hating on Roman Reigns so much and give him a little bit more credit. After all, he's worked very hard and has vastly improved since first jumping the barricade at Survivor Series alongside Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose as a rookie member of The Shield.
