WWE News: AJ Styles reacts to his loss against Kevin Owens on SmackDown Live
What’s the story?
Following his unexpected loss to Kevin Owens on this week’s episode of Smackdown Live, WWE Champion AJ Styles was interviewed in the backstage area by Renee Young. “The Phenomenal One” shared his thoughts and reacted to his defeat.
In case you didn’t know…
On this week’s episode of Smackdown Live, former Universal Champion Kevin Owens scored a major pinfall victory over AJ Styles, following distractions from both Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahon and Owens’ best friend Sami Zayn.
Styles, who looked to close out the year 2017 with a victory, lost to Owens via a roll-up pinfall after the referee got distracted. After the match, AJ had a staredown with Shane McMahon, who seemed apologetic for costing the WWE Champion his match against Owens.
The heart of the matter
After Styles’ devastating loss to KO on Smackdown, WWE announcer Renee Young caught up with “The Phenomenal One” in the backstage area in order to know Styles’ thoughts regarding his defeat to Owens.
AJ Styles said that he knew what he was getting into, with the involvement of both Zayn and Owens. Additionally, Styles claimed that he is someone who is all about creating results and not make excuses.
Young would then ask the WWE Champion what his interaction with Shane McMahon had actually meant, but Styles would refuse to give a proper answer to the question and stated that the matter is between him and the SmackDown Live commissioner.
Now that Styles’ feud with Jinder Mahal is over, it will be interesting to see who steps up to challenge “The Phenomenal One” for the WWE Title come January 28th at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
The second possibility right now is another potential feud between Styles and Shane McMahon.
The two men had famously faced one another at this year's WrestleMania event.
Styles’ stare down with Shane McMahon has definitely sent the WWE Universe into a frenzy and it is safe to assume that there is a very strong possibility of the two men facing off against each other, or getting into a heated argument, at the very least.
