What’s the story?

In a recent interview with ESPN, Alexa Bliss opened up on the origins of her current on-screen WWE character. Additionally, she asserted that her real personality is quite different from her villainous ‘Wicked Witch’ gimmick. Besides, Bliss explained how she transitioned from her fairy gimmick in NXT and evolved into the confident heel she portrays on WWE television right now.

In case you didn’t know…

Alexa Bliss, whose real name is Alexis 'Lexi' Kaufman, initially portrayed a babyface fairy character on WWE’s NXT brand. She was also previously associated with Blake and Murphy on NXT, before breaking out on the main roster as a singles wrestler.

Bliss eventually revamped her character, and began portraying a heel. She is now one of the WWE’s top female superstars, having held both the SmackDown and RAW Women’s Championships.

The Heart of the Matter

Alexa Bliss revealed where she derived her villainous gimmick from, stating:

"So I was at the airport and this little kid would not go through security and just threw a fit in the middle of the floor and did the whole thing with shaking his legs and arms. His parents were just standing there looking like, 'We don't know what to do!' They were annoyed, and I was like, 'Man, that's a really bratty thing to do and I'm going to do it.'"

Furthermore, Bliss elucidated that she knew many mean girls in high school—the kind that one would vote for and make homecoming queen despite her bad attitude. Bliss continued that she wanted to portray that very kind of evil high school mean girl, as a villain in the WWE.

Besides, Bliss also emphasized that she initially wasn‘t confident in shifting from her fairy gimmick to that kind of a heel, but her mother helped her in the transition. She urged Bliss to kick down the proverbial door and announce her arrival to everyone.

What’s Next?

Alexa Bliss presently competes on the WWE’s RAW brand, and is the red brand’s reigning Women’s Champion. Bliss certainly seems to be on a collision course with Asuka in the new year, assuming she continues to hold onto her Championship.

Author’s Take

Alexa Bliss recalling her character’s origins with so much passion just goes to show how devoted she is toward honing her craft. Alexa seems to have put in a ton of hard work in order to build up her confidence as a heel, and it’s now paying off well indeed.

Long live the Wicked Witch, Alexa Bliss.
