WWE News: Alexa Bliss talks about her anxiety before turning heel for the first time

Bliss became the Raw Women’s Champion in her first pay-per-view appearance for the brand

What’s the story?

WWE Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss recently appeared on the Talk is Jericho podcast hosted by WWE Superstar Chris Jericho. During the conversation, Bliss discussed her anxiety when she was asked to turn ‘heel’ for the first time on NXT.

In case you didn’t know…

As a result of the recent Superstar Shakeup, Alexa Bliss was drafted to the Raw brand and made her first appearance on the April 10th episode of the show. The following week, she won a fatal four-way match against Sasha Banks, Mickie James and Nia Jax to become the #1 contender for the Raw Women’s Championship.

At the Payback pay-per-view, the 2-time SmackDown Women’s Champion defeated Bayley to lay hands on her first Raw Women’s title.

The heart of the matter

Alexa Bliss told Chris Jericho that she had a lot of anxiety when she came to know that he was turning ‘heel’ as it was the complete opposite of her previous gimmick. She revealed how she stopped and started crying at times while doing ‘heat drills’ to prepare for her character.

Here’s what the ‘Five Feet of Fury’ had to say:

“When I first was told that I was turning heel I had such mad anxiety because the character that I portrayed before that was very bubbly, very fairy princess. We would do heat drills and stuff in the [WWE Performance Center] and there were times when I would stop and start crying. Like oh my gosh, I don’t know what I’m doing!”

When asked by ‘Y2J’ about what a ‘heat drill’ meant, Bliss explained that it was about practising how to be mean. She added that it was an attempt to try and fit her character every now and then during a match. ‘The Wicked Witch of the WWE’ told Jericho this:

“Yeah, it’s where you would basically practice being mean and putting heat on somebody. So you grab your opponent, put some heat on them, you would say something mean and then keep going. So basically trying to fit your character within little spots and where to put it [in a match].”

What next?

Bayley attacked Alexa Bliss after the latter’s match against Mickie James and it is likely that Bliss may have to defend her title soon against the former Raw Women’s Champion.

Author’s take

The fact that Alexa Bliss has taken less than a year since her main roster debut in July last year to become a three-time champion in the WWE speaks volumes about the amount of talent that she possesses. If she continues in this manner, Bliss may soon be on course to becoming one of the greatest women’s Superstars ever in the WWE.
