WWE News: An Indie champion made an appearance on SmackDown and you didn't even know it

Joe Monroe with the
Joe Monroe with the scream heard around the world on SmackDown Live this week...

What's the story?

This week on SmackDown Live the Bludgeon Brothers took on Colin Delaney and Joe Monroe. Colin Delaney is a name some in the WWE Universe might remember, and his partner Joe Monroe is also known through the indie scene.

In case you didn't know...

Colin Delaney actually had a homecoming of sorts on this week's SmackDown Live as he wrestled for the company in 2007 and 2008. He was basically used as enhancement talent on the rebooted ECW brand, but would eventually have his role changed.

After several losses, he'd earn a win when he teamed with Tommy Dreamer to defeat The Miz and John Morrison. Delaney would turn on Dreamer costing him a shot at the ECW Championship, but shortly after those events, the WWE would release Delaney.

The heart of the matter

Fans of Chikara will know Joe Monroe as Juan Francisco de Coronado. Interestingly enough, he is the current Chikara Grand Champion and the seventh champion in the title's history.

Coronado won the championship from UltraMantis Black on April 1st this year at Bad Wolf, making his current reign at over 250 days. Eddie Kingston was the first winner of the championship when it was introduced in 2011 and he held the title initially for 924 days.

Coronado began his wrestling career in 2008 and was born in New York City.

What's next?

The SmackDown Live brand heads to Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday for Clash Of The Champions live on the WWE Network. The opponents of Delaney and Monroe, The Bludgeon Brothers will be in action for their first pay per view match since being rebranded as they will take on Breezango.

Author's take

First off, that scream by Joe Monroe when he was powerslammed by Harper was HILARIOUS. If you haven't seen (or heard) it yet, make sure to check it out below:

I have not seen a social media reaction to a jobber since James Ellsworth, and look what that got him. A total of 18 months on the main roster.

There was definitely a lot of buzz surrounding a quick squash match between the return of Delaney as well as the facial expressions and screams of Monroe.
