What's the story?
On this week's episode of SmackDown Live, Charlotte Flair faced Natalya in a rematch of their encounter two weeks back. During the bout, Carmella made her way out to the ring accompanied by a referee.
She tried to cash in her briefcase on the prone Charlotte Flair in an unsuccessful attempt to win the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship.
After the bout, Charlotte's opponent for WrestleMania, Asuka, came out to confront her.
In case you didn't know...
Charlotte Flair and Natalya had faced each other in an encounter two weeks back. On that occasion, Natalya had managed to collect a cheap victory over the SmackDown Women's Champion.
The two were set to face each other in a rematch last week, but after Charlotte suffered an injury, the bout was pulled from the card.
Carmella won the Money in the Bank Ladder Match to become the first ever Women's Money in the Bank briefcase holder. Since her victory, she has tried to cash it in on separate occasions but has not gone through with it yet.
The heart of the matter
Charlotte and Natalya faced each other in a rematch on SmackDown Live. The two women knocked each other down when the clashed with dual clotheslines, and Carmella looked to take immediate advantage.
She ran out into the arena with a referee and tried to cash in her Money in the Bank Briefcase. Charlotte had been prone in the ring, but seeing the danger, got up and kicked the Briefcase out of Carmella's hands. She then turned her attention to Carmella and took her out as well.
Natalya tried to take advantage of the distraction and pin Charlotte with a roll-up, but Charlotte got out of the predicament and won the match with a Figure Eight Leglock.
After the bout was over, Charlotte's opponent for WrestleMania, Asuka, made her way down to the ring. She was about to deliver her usual phrase of Charlotte not being ready for Asuka when Charlotte snatched the mike away and asserted that she was indeed ready for the Empress.
What's next?
Charlotte and Asuka are set to square off in the Mixed Match Challenge and then later in the week at WrestleMania in the SmackDown Women's Championship Match.
Author's take
Carmella seems unlikely to be able to cash in the Money in the Bank Briefcase successfully at the moment. With the recent unsuccessful attempt of Baron Corbin, Carmella better be careful. It will be interesting to see what Carmella does at WrestleMania.
