WWE News: Batista to star in movie franchise he's creating

The Animal is killing it in Hollywood
Batista's Hollywood career has grown in the last few years

What’s the story?

Dave Batista has received rave reviews for his acting over the years and will get a chance to shine in a movie franchise of his own creation.

A report published in Deadline states that Batista has a deal with STX Entertainment to develop an action-comedy franchise.

In case you didn’t know...

Though Batista has picked up major steam in Hollywood, he first came to prominence as a wrestler in the WWE. Batista stayed with the company for 10 years before leaving to try his hand at MMA and acting.

Batista made a brief return in 2014 and wanted to return after promoting his appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, but Triple H and Stephanie McMahon’s alleged doubts regarding the film’s success turned Batista off to another WWE return.

The Guardians of the Galaxy series went on to collectively gross $1.3 billion in the worldwide domestic office and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is currently the sixth highest grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to The Numbers.

The heart of the matter

There are no details regarding the action-comedy franchise Batista is looking to create, but it's being reported by Deadline that Batista will star in and produce the films.

Batista has starred in a multitude of movies, but this upcoming film may be his first time acting in an action-comedy movie, as the Marvel movies are classified solely as action movies.

Working in conjuncture with Batista will be Senior Vice President of STX Film Production, Drew Simons, and Jonathan Meisner, who worked on the Guardians of the Galaxy films and several WWE documentaries.

What’s next?

Batista's latest movie role is his appearance in the film Blade Runner 2049, while his other upcoming films are currently in post-production including Hotel Artemis, Final Score, a side story in the IP Man series, and several others.

Batista will resume his work from Guardians of the Galaxy in his appearance in Avengers: Infinity Wars which comes out in 2018.

Author’s Take

It’s always great to see wrestlers doing well outside of wrestling, but great doesn’t even begin to describe the success that Batista’s had thus far in his acting career.
