Will Bayley make it to the main event of WrestleMania within two years?

What's the story?

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Bayley has said that she is planning on headlining WrestleMania 35. The full interview can be viewed here.

In case you didn't know

It seemed for all the world as though Bayley was a true 'can't-miss' prospect. The former NXT Women's Champion had risen through the ranks of WWE developmental, evolving from awkward enhancement babyface all the way to the most popular star on the entire brand.

Her character was a breath of fresh air, and she seemed poised to mimic that success on the main roster. Bayley arrived on RAW to a thunderous reception, and all seemed well in the land of The Hugger.

Then she won the RAW Women's Championship in dubious circumstances, and everything went pear-shaped. The WWE Universe vehemently turned on Bayley, and she now finds herself at a real career crossroads. She is currently out injured with a separated shoulder.

The heart of the matter

The former NXT and RAW Women's Champion was recently interviewed by Sports Illustrated, and the chat covered a wide variety of subjects. Bayley's career was the focal point, along with the forthcoming WWE 2K18 video game and her long recovery from her shoulder injury.

Bayley was asked about career goals, and Everyone's Favourite Hugger revealed a particularly gigantic aim;

"I plan on headlining WrestleMania 35"

When pushed on the subject, Bayley revealed who she would like to face in the main event of the Show of Shows, and it should come as no surprise that Sasha Banks got the nod. Bayley also spoke about the possibility of a fatal four-way featuring the Four Horsewomen of WWE.

"I want a one-on-one match with Sasha Banks. A Fatal Four-Way with Sasha, Becky Lynch and Charlotte would also be great some day at WrestleMania"

Bayley also spoke about how excited she was to be a part of 2K18 and her friendship with Seth Rollins.

What's next?

Bayley is out for the foreseeable future with a separated shoulder, and the injury may well have come at a good time, if such a thing is possible. The WWE Universe had well and truly turned on her, and some time away from TV may do her some good.

When she returns to RAW she will find herself on the same show as the still-undefeated Asuka, the woman who ended her NXT Women's Championship reign. Could Bayley be the first to defeat the Empress of Tomorrow?

Author's take

Whilst it is important to set yourself big goals in life, this may well be a step too far. Bayley is currently a long way from being a popular star in her division, and a WrestleMania headlining spot has never seemed further away. It could happen, but recovering from injury must happen first.
