What's the story?

Becky Lynch spoke to Digital Spy in an interview, where she gave her opinion on why there is no Women's Hell in a Cell match this year. She also talked about her disappointment at not being on the card for Hell in a Cell.

She opined that there being no Women's Hell in a Cell match was not a step back for the women's division in any way and that it was all part of a 'rotation' system.

In case you didn't know...

Last year, the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view saw the first ever women's Hell in a Cell match, as Charlotte took on Sasha Banks in what was considered to be a huge revolutionary move for the Women's Division.

This time the match between Charlotte and Natalya for the Smackdown Women's Championship has no stipulation attached to it.

The heart of the matter

In her interview, Becky Lynch was clear that she did not think it to be a bad thing that the women did not have a Hell in a Cell match this year.

She talked about how both Charlotte and Natalya's characters were comparatively new, and that their feud had just begun and was not strong enough for there to be a Hell in a Cell match. She said that it was not a step back for the Women's division and was simply in a rotation.

"Charlotte and Natalya, they haven't had the longest storyline in this circumstance going into Hell in a Cell. Charlotte has a new character and Natalya has a new character and we're seeing a different element of both of them. To put them into a Hell in a Cell right off the bat, where do you go from there? So no, I don't think it's a step backwards at all to not have a women's Hell in a Cell match."

She also opened up about how she felt for not being involved in the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view and confessed her disappointment.

She was optimistic though as she talked about having her eye on her goal, and said that with things changing in WWE as fast as they do, she could be main eventing Wrestlemania the next year with the Four Horsewomen.

What's next?

Charlotte faces Natalya at Hell in a Cell where she will try to win the Smackdown Women's Championship. Both the stars should keep an eye out for Carmella, as she may take to opportunity to cash in her Money in the Bank briefcase.

Author's take

Having a Hell in a Cell match for the Women each year like clockwork would seem forced and defeat the purpose of the match altogether. This year, after a long time, both the matches taking place inside the structure had feuds that deserved them.

The match was supposed to take place only for matches where the feud and enmity had reached such a height that it needed to be contained. With the Natalya and Charlotte feud barely underway, the Hell in a Cell stipulation would not have made any sense.
