The first ever SmackDown Women's Champion

What’s the story?

Becky Lynch returned to SmackDown Live and joined Naomi and Charlotte Flair in an attack on the Riott Squad.

In case you didn’t know...

Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan debuted on SmackDown and brutally attacked Naomi and Lynch the night after Survivor Series. Lynch had not been seen on WWE television since the attack back in November.

The heart of the matter

Riott, Morgan and Logan faced Natalya, Tamina and Carmella of The Welcoming Committee in a 6-woman tag team match. Logan got the pin by hitting Tamina with a handspring knee to the back of the head.

Riott disparaged the crowd in Miami, Florida after the match and made subtle references to the Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida by talking about “wishes” and “dreams.” Riott would go on to announce that Morgan and Logan would also be entering the Women’s Royal Rumble match before she was interrupted by the SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Flair came out and said that she did believe in dreams and talked about the SmackDown Women’s locker room wishing to give the Riott Squad the beating they deserved before welcoming Naomi to the stage.

Flair and Naomi would both wait on the entrance ramp before Lynch’s music hit and the crowd gave her a massive reaction.

Flair, Lynch and Naomi would run down to the ring and attack the Riott Squad and chase them from ringside.

What’s next?

Lynch didn’t announce her entry into the Women’s Royal Rumble match, but she will more than likely make her formal announcement either on social media or next week on SmackDown.

There’s also a strong chance that Flair, Lynch and Naomi will compete in a 6-woman tag team match against The Riott Squad at some point prior to the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Author’s take

Great to see Becky Lynch back on the WWE programming. Hopefully, 2018 turns out to be her year where she finally breaks the glass ceiling as many fans hope she does.
