Strowman confronts WWE Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar

What’s the story?

During an interview with the Omaha World Herald ahead of Monday Night Raw, Braun Strowman said that he grew up as a wrestling fan, idolising Hulk Hogan. The Monster Among Men also said that he intended to take the Universal Championship from Brock Lesnar at No Mercy.

The Background

At SummerSlam 2017, Strowman competed in a fatal four-way match for the WWE Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, and Samoa Joe. Although Lesnar left victorious, Storwman shined during the match being showcased for a majority of the match and slamming Lesnar through two announce tables.

The following Monday Night Raw, it was announced that Strowman would face Lesnar in a one on one match for the Universal Championship at the next Raw pay-per-view, No Mercy.

The Details

In the interview, Strowman discussed a variety of topics including his love for the business and how he broke into professional wrestling. Strowman explained that he was a huge fan when he was a child, citing Hulk Hogan and Hulkamania as the main cause of his fandom.

Regarding his introduction to the business, he was scouted at a World’s Strongest Man competition and subsequently exchanged information with WWE.

When the topic of his upcoming Universal Championship match against Brock Lesnar came up, Strowman simplified what he believes is coming next in his professional wrestling career:

“Next is taking that title from Brock Lesnar, with no mercy.”

What’s next?

Braun Strowman challenges Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WWE’s No Mercy pay-per-view on September 24, 2017.

Author’s take

Braun Strowman looked like an absolute star at SummerSlam, and it is clear the company is putting a lot of stock in him with what he was able to do to Brock Lesnar at the event. Where Strowman is now, main eventing SummerSlam and going one on one with Lesnar, is a testament to his work ethic, as he has only appeared on television for two years.

Strowman is without question one of the bright spots in WWE, and the sky is the limit for the Monster Among Men.
