What's the Story?

Brock Lesnar missed Monday Night Raw this week, but made it to Chicago, Illinois for a house show match against Kane.

Unfortunately for the fans at the United Center, Lesnar's Universal Championship match only lasted about 30 seconds.

In Case You Didn't Know

Lesnar has worked on a lucrative part-time contract since 2012, but has been recently criticized by fans for some of his lackluster performances.

The Beast Incarnate's match quality varied greatly since 2016, but his house show work has always been significantly short.

The Heart of the Matter

The show took place in Chicago, Illinois at the United Center - marking the first time the WWE returned to the venue since SummerSlam 1994.

Despite being the second show in WWE history at the downtown arena, Lesnar exerted no extra effort in his Universal Championship match against Kane and Chicago was not pleased by this brief encounter.

The following is a clip from the brief title match:

Lesnar's match tonight marked his first live event appearance of 2018 with his last house show match taking place on August 12, 2017.

The reaction to this match was negative according to fans in attendance and the reaction on social media was even worse.

Some of the responses got even more volatile:

Despite the hatred for the Lesnar-Kane match, some were able to take away something positive from it all.

What's Next?

Lesnar is not scheduled to appear on Monday Night Raw for the first show in March, but is advertised to compete at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Friday March 9.

The Universal Champion is advertised to return to television the following week on March 12 at the Little Caesar's Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

Author's Take

Roman Reigns' recent promo criticizing Lesnar's work ethic and commitment to the company just received a great deal of legitimacy.

Many might write this off as Lesnar feeding into the storyline, but the history of his previous live event matches would suggest that this might just be the reality of Lesnar's current mindset.
