WWE News: Byron Saxton drafted to SmackDown; David Otunga to take his place on Raw

The announcer will now be part of the SmackDown Announce Desk

What’s the story?

News broke on WWE’s Youtube Channel moments ago that Raw announcer Byron Saxton was being drafted to SmackDown as a part of the Superstar Shake-Up that began on Raw this week and will continue on SmackDown. David Otunga from SmackDown was being drafted to Raw, to presumably replace the departing Saxton.

You can watch the video of Saxton being informed about his move below.

In case you didn't know...

Last week on Raw, Vince McMahon announced a Superstar shake-up, during which Superstars from one brand, could be drafted to the other. We saw multiple Superstars such as Dean Ambrose, Alexa Bliss, Bray Wyatt and The Miz (among others) move from Smackdown Live to Raw, this week.

Michael Cole had speculated that announcers would not be spared either, and we had our first glimpse of the same with this trade.

The heart of the matter

Immediately after the show, during Raw fall-out, Byron Saxton was informed that he would be a part of SmackDown Live henceforth. While Saxton was shocked in the beginning, he eventually came to terms with his new role in the company.

By the end of the video, he was optimistic and called it a great opportunity. Byron Saxton added that he would miss Michael Cole and Corey Graves, though he mentioned that he wouldn't miss Graves all that much.

What’s next?

Unless Bayley gets drafted to SmackDown, we've heard the last of Saxton losing his mind over her inflatable tubes. Tune in tomorrow to catch Saxton’s first week as a part of the blue brand.

Author’s take

Byron Saxton and David Otunga are the two most inconsequential men at the commentary desks of their respective brands. This underwhelming transfer should make no difference to either brand honestly, in the long run.
