What's the story?

Bobby Roode and Charlotte were put together ahead of the Mixed Match Challenge that will air on Facebook from Tuesday. It seems that it wasn't just pot luck that put WWE together since it is now being reported that one of the main reasons behind the pairing was so that the duo could be called "The Robe Warriors."

In case you didn't know...

Bobby Roode and Charlotte are considered to be two of the best wrestlers on the SmackDown roster currently with Roode boasting the fact that he's a former NXT Champion and Charlotte currently holding the SmackDown Women's Championship.

Roode has been likened to Ric Flair a number of times due to the fact that he makes his ring entrance wearing a bedazzled robe similar to the ones that The Nature Boy and now the Nature Girl have become famous for wearing.

It seems that Roode and Charlotte both make their entrances wearing these robes, which is the main inspiration that has helped come up with such a fantastic name.

The heart of the matter

Charlotte and Bobby Roode unveiled the name "The Robe Warriors" with The Wrestling Observers Dave Meltzer reporting that the duo were only put together because the company wanted to use the name because it's a play on The Road Warriors, who made quite the impact in WWE as a tag team a number of years ago.

It has been argued that the name was actually pitched to the duo on Twitter after Charlotte asked for names for their team since they first called themselves Charlourious, which isn't as catchy.

What's next?

The Mixed Match Challenge begins on Tuesday night but it seems that Charlotte and Bobby Roode are not competing until week 6 when they will take on the team of Apollo Crews and Nia Jax.

Author's take

In wrestling it is all about coming up with things that are catchy so that merchandise can later be made and the whole idea can be monetized so regardless of who actually pitched the idea for the team, Charlotte and Bobby could be about to cash in if they are able to win the competition and continue to team together afterwards.
