WWE News: Charly Caruso announces that Kurt Angle will face Samoa Joe on tonight's Raw

A rivalry from outside of WWE renewed.
A rivalry from outside of WWE renewed.

What's the story?

As Kurt Angle winds down his in-ring career before his retirement match at WrestleMania 35, he continues to wrestle superstars from his past (AJ Styles tomorrow) and some who wanted to wrestle him (Chad Gable).

Charly Caruso broke the news on WWE's Twitter that the Olympic Gold Medalist will be facing another major foe and sometimes ally from his past tonight on Raw in Samoa Joe.

In case you missed it...

Angle announced earlier this month that he would be having his final match at WrestleMania 35. But before he hangs up his boots for good, he has been wrestling superstars like Apollo Crews, Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable on past episodes of Raw.

WWE is allowing Angle to have a 'retirement tour' of matches before the final match against Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35.

The heart of the matter

Over the weekend, it was announced that Angle would be facing one of the best SmackDown has to offer in AJ Styles on tomorrow's show.

In order to cram as many meaningful matches into his retirement tour, WWE announced another Angle match for tonight's Raw, only this time, SmackDown United States Champion Samoa Joe will be coming to Raw for the match.

A lot of other current names might want to face Angle before he retires, but he can only handle so many matches before his dance with Baron Corbin.

While the announcement that he'd be facing Corbin at WrestleMania 35 was underwhelming at best to most fans and his peers, it does go along with the GM storyline between Angle and Corbin for most of the last half of 2018.

With only one more Raw to go before the Biggest Show of the Year, only one or two more superstars may get a shot at locking horns and ankles with Angle.

What's next?

Perhaps it would behoove WWE to have Angle face Corbin on next week's Raw so that he can face someone the fans would rather see him face in John Cena.

Although Cena is away filming a movie, he is still more desirable as an opponent for Angle on the bigger stage due to Cena's history of debuting against Angle.

Other names that might oppose Angle before WrestleMania on Raw or SmackDown include Eric Young and Bobby Roode, due to their prior work in TNA/Impact.

They might need to slow down on the matches, however, as Angle struggled in his match last week against Gable. His gas tank needs to be saved for his retirement match.
