WWE News: Current Champion calls out Brock Lesnar in an interview

Will we see a Champion vs. Champion match, very soon indeed?
Will we see a Champion vs. Champion match, very soon indeed?

What's the story?

Current WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne was being interviewed by the NXT Pre-Show Panel, ahead of NXT Takeover: Philadelphia, when he made a bold statement. The man was honoured to be an ambassador for NXT, and wanted to put the division on the map.

He was asked by Sam Roberts if there was anyone outside the division that he wanted to face. Dunne replied that he would face anyone and everyone, including Brock Lesnar.

In case you didn't know...

Pete Dunne was a finalist in the first ever WWE United Kingdom Tournament held in Blackpool in early 2017. He lost to Tyler Bate in the finals, a man who would become his arch rival.

The two men put on a legendary performance at NXT Takeover: Chicago (where Pete Dunne became United Kingdom Champion), which won the NXT Year End award for 'Match of the Year'.

Ahead of NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia, Dunne would cut a promo and put the world on notice.

The heart of the matter

When Sam Roberts asked Pete Dunne who he wants to prove himself with, outside the UK Division, this is what he had to say:

Anyone and everyone. I want the NXT Title. Bring Brock Lesnar. Bring anyone.

The whole panel gasped as one when the name was announced. Charly Caruso would ask Dunne what his opinion of Tyler Bate was, following the bold statement:

Tyler's a great competitor, but I've beat him twice now. Who's next?

What's next?

There are still no concrete plans for the United Kingdom Championship. The title does make sporadic appearances on NXT, but they amount to nothing much. There were rumours of a weekly show for the UK Championship competitors, but that seems to have fizzled.

Author's take

If Finn Balor isn't 'over' enough to face Brock Lesnar, there's no way Pete Dunne is. And that's the honest truth.

Dunne could become NXT Champion someday, on the other hand!
