WWE WrestleMania 33 News: Dave Meltzer worried about Shane McMahon's health before WrestleMania match

Daniel Bryan prevented the contract signing from descending into chaos

What’s the story?

On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed the go-home show of Monday Night RAW. The duo analysed every segment in detail and speculated the implications on the Wrestlemania card.

Meltzer pointed out that he was worried about Shane McMahon injuring himself while facing AJ Styles at the Ultimate Thrill Ride, Wrestlemania 33.

In case you didn’t know...

Shane McMahon and AJ Styles signed a contract for their singles encounter at Wrestlemania on the go-home show of SmackDown. Styles and Shane were on the verge of throwing fists at each other, and Daniel Bryan had to play the role of the pacifier.

Later on Talking Smack, Styles claimed that there was no way in which Shane could be him at Wrestlemania.

The heart of the matter

Meltzer pointed out that a prominent spot in almost every Shane McMahon-match features him jumping off the top of something onto his opponent. He said that the Wrestlemania 33 set was built as a roller coaster and wondered whether Shane would attempt some daredevil stunt using the setting.

Meltzer claimed that Shane diving off the top rope on SmackDown set the standard for the match and the Smackdown commissioner would go out of his way to top that. Meltzer revealed that Shane was 47 years old and a high-risk manoeuvre could endanger his well-being.

Meltzer stated that whenever Shane would go to the high rent district, he would end up hurting himself.

What’s next?

WWE will take over Orlando for Wrestlemania week with several events. The Hall of Fame ceremony, NXT TakeOver, and Wrestlemania are all lined up for the weekend. Shane McMahon will go one on one with the Phenomenal One AJ Styles in a high profile singles match at the event.

Author's take

Shane has always incorporated an element of thrill into his matches. Be it his match with Kurt Angle in 2001 where he was suplexed into a glass panel or his Leap of Faith last year at Wrestlemania against the Undertaker, Shane in no stranger to dangerous spots.

His upcoming match with Styles promises to be another spectacular match that has the potential to steal the show at the Grandest Stage of Them All.
