What’s the story?

As reported by The Mirror, David Otunga’s attorney has released a statement on his behalf; addressing the recent allegations against him.

Otunga’s representative denies any wrongdoing on the WWE commentator’s part; asserting that his ex-fiancée Jennifer Hudson has been misleading the powers-that-be by making false allegations against Otunga.

In case you didn’t know…

David Otunga and Jennifer Hudson (Grammy award winning singer & Hollywood personality) have been in the process of ending their 10-year relationship, over the past few months.

Their 8 year old son (David Daniel Otunga Jr.) has been a factor of contention between the couple; as regards the child’s residential custody.

The heart of the matter

Jennifer Hudson filed and successfully received a protective order against David Otunga; with her rep stating that the Hollywood star has done so in the best interests of her son. However, Otunga’s attorney, Tracy M. Rizzo, issued a statement for him—an excerpt of which has been noted below—

“David Otunga has been trying to negotiate the terms of an amicable parenting agreement with Ms. Hudson for several weeks now…However, when it became apparent to Ms. Hudson that Mr. Otunga would be the parent granted residential care of the child, as a result of Mr. Otunga being the child's primary caregiver while Ms. Hudson pursues her career all over the world, Ms. Hudson decided to file a meritless Petition for Order of Protection in an effort to gain an unfair advantage in the custody dispute.”

Furthermore, the statement read that given Otunga’s background in the WWE, Ms Hudson attempted to present herself as a victim. Additionally, it was noted that Otunga has never abused/harassed her or their son; and that he looks forward to their day in court, and being awarded residential care of their only child.

What’s next?

David Otunga has been busy with his movie obligations but was set to return to the WWE announcers’ desk at the earliest.

However, should the allegations against him be proven in court, he’s likely to lose his spot in WWE. Booker T has been serving as his replacement in the commentator’s booth for a while now.

Author’s take

One ought to refrain from passing judgment against either party in such cases.

Regardless, should the accusations have any merit, it’s a horrible thing for a man to put his spouse and child through. Here’s hoping the authorities get to the bottom of this situation and ensure that justice is served.
