David Otunga claims Jennifer Hudson forced him to refrain from in-ring competition

What’s the story?

Per TMZ, David Otunga has revealed that he retired from in-ring pro-wrestling competition owing to his ex-fiancée Jennifer Hudson demanding him to do so.

Apparently, the custody dispute between Otunga and Hudson over their son David Otunga Jr. has gotten more heated, with more allegations being levied by both parties.

In case you didn’t know…

David Otunga performed for the WWE from 2009-15, with the latter stages of his career seeing him portray the role of a ‘Legal Advisor’, a gimmick that he was accorded based on the fact that he is indeed a qualified lawyer.

Otunga eventually transitioned to the role of a commentator, however, he has now been relegated to the role of an analyst on the PPV pre-shows.

The heart of the matter

As we’d previously reported, award-winning actress and musician Jennifer Hudson obtained a protective order against her partner of 10 years, WWE Superstar David Otunga. Addressing the same, Otunga’s lawyer sent out a statement, insinuating that given Hudson’s hectic travel schedule, she felt threatened that Otunga shall be accorded sole custody of their son, and therefore resorted to making false allegations against the WWE Superstar. Below are a few excerpts from the statement regarding the same (*courtesy—People*)—

“As a result of Mr. Otunga's career in the WWE, Ms. Hudson felt that she could give an award-winning performance in court to portray herself as the victim. Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today's climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him. Mr. Otunga looks forward to his day in court and in being awarded the residential care of the parties' only child.”

Furthermore, Hudson has now alleged that Otunga is unemployed and possesses a job diary; adding that he sits on the couch all day and doesn’t pay child support.

In response to the same, Otunga revealed to TMZ that he finds it ironic how Hudson would make the aforementioned claims. Apparently, Otunga alleges that she was the one who forced him to choose between being a wrestler and looking after his family, 5 years ago.

What’s next?

The legal battle between David Otunga and Jennifer Hudson is set to unravel in the court of law over the weeks to come.

Meanwhile, the police investigation found that the domestic violence allegations levied by Hudson against Otunga weren’t valid, owing to which they’ve cleared him in that avenue; thus, allowing Otunga to resume his duties as an analyst in the WWE.

Author’s take

The David Otunga-Jennifer Hudson dispute seems to have gotten worse since late-2017.

It’d be wrong to pass any kind of judgment on either side before anything is proven in the court of law. Here’s hoping that justice prevails.
