Diamond Dallas Page takes on the Undertaker

What's the story?

WWE Legend Diamond Dallas Page spoke out about his legendary feud with the Undertaker, during an interview with The Sun. The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion said that he didn't have any heat with The Deadman and admitted that he wanted to work with the Rock during his run in WWE.

In case you don't know...

Diamond Dallas Page was one of WCW's biggest stars and a firm fan favourite. After WWE won the Monday Night Wars and bought out WCW, DDP signed with the Connecticut based promotion. In his first WWE feud, he was revealed to be the man who had been stalking Undertaker's wife, and this infamous storyline resulted in a feud with the Phenom, where he was well and truly defeated.

The heart of the matter

When asked about his real life relationship with The Undertaker, DDP said:

"I never had any real heat with Taker. It wasn’t like we didn’t like each other. But our styles didn’t really mix. I knew Mark from WCW before he was ever Taker. And I always liked him."

Page knew that being turned into a stalker wouldn't do his character any good as he had been a beloved babyface during his time with WCW. He admitted that he would have preferred a feud with The Rock, which he felt would have been much more successful.

"I wanted to do people’s champion versus people’s champion – that was the money."

Paige also added that the Undertaker was complimentary about the former's work with Jake Roberts and Scott Hall.

“He came up to me after he saw the Resurrection of Jake the Snake and said, ‘Dude, what you’re doing for the business and people in general is super special.’”

Author's take

Diamond Dallas Page was one of the most popular superstars in WCW, and the preoccupation that WWE had with shouting about their dominance was something that he drowned in when he came over.

Given the right push, he could have been one of the biggest stars of the time, but alas, he was one of many WCW Superstars who failed because of the pettiness that pervaded WWE at the time.
