What's the story?

Heath Slater is one of those wrestlers who falls into a really strange category in WWE. You could never say that he was underused, but you could definitely say he was underrated or underutilised.

Heath Slater is a man who's never been short of TV time, but is often the punchline of a joke, but does he believe he needs a push? 'The One Man Band' responded to a fan who thinks so on Twitter today.

In case you didn't know...

Slater has had many ups and downs in WWE, he's a four-time Tag Team Champion, most notably when he and Rhyno triumphantly became the first ever SmackDown Tag Team Champions, winning the belts last year for him to win a WWE contract.

The other end of this scale, though, is the reason why Heath Slater had to win the titles - he was left undrafted when neither brand wanted him and had even been scheduled to lose a contract match against James Ellsworth at one point.

Heath Slater has often been involved in fancy dress matches or has been the man who has had his face put into a cake or vice versa - but he's always handled it in good jest and made the most of his time on television.

The heart of the matter

Well, today, a fan took to Twitter to say they wanted to see Heath Slater get a push, and maybe even a title opportunity - and Slater even responded with his own two cents.

Slater is a man who always gets very mini "nudges" in his words, and the WWE Universe is always behind Slater - hence the SmackDown Tag Team Championships victory.

Slater had also been rumoured to answer John Cena's United States Championship Open Challenge in the past after fans urged WWE to hit his music via a Twitter hashtag. Slater also came very close to breaking a record in this year's Royal Rumble when he eliminated Sheamus.

What's next?

Heath Slater is a mainstay on WWE Raw these days, but Heath Slater's partner Rhyno has been trying to toughen him up. In recent weeks, he lost in very quick fashion to Bray Wyatt - but so did Rhyno.

Heath Slater also featured in this week's tag team Battle Royal where Braun Strowman decided to go into business for himself and enter the match, only to go on to win it.

Author's take

Well, most times, Superstars will either retweet these comments and not add a comment in a sly hint towards WWE, or they'll stand up for WWE - aside from Dana Brooke when she recently critiqued WWE for forgetting about her - but Slater played this smart and went right down the middle, but stayed in character with his "I got kids" gimmick. Personally, I'd love to see Slater get a push - or indeed, a nudge.
