WWE News: Donald Trump's adviser wants Hulk Hogan to run for Senate

Hogan for office?
Hogan for office?

What's the story?

In an interview with Republican Party communications consultant Patrick Slevin, Roger Stone, a longtime adviser to current US President Donald Trump, said that he was focusing his energies on convincing former WWE Champion Hulk Hogan to run for Senate in Florida.

In case you didn't know...

Hogan's most recent stint with WWE came to an end when his contract was terminated on July 24, 2015. This coincided with the National Enquirer releasing a clip from the wrestler's controversial sex tape in which he made a series of racially insensitive comments.

Several African-American wrestlers who were under contract to WWE, such as Booker T and Mark Henry, quickly condemned Hogan's remarks and praise the Connecticut-based promotion's no tolerance approach to racism.

The Florida native then took Gawker, a media company that released an excerpt from his sex tape, for $100 million. He was awarded $151 million but settled for $31 million.

In 2017, several WWE executives said they were open to the idea of Hogan returning to WWE.

The heart of the matter

During the interview, Roger Stone said that he wanted the WWE icon to challenge for office in 2018.

"At a minimum, I hope to convince Hogan to body slam Scott in every debate. If (Florida Governor Rick Scott) is under the impression that his personal responsibility for $1 billion in Medicaid fraud is no longer an issue, he’s wrong," Stone stated.

Florida Governor Rick Scott, who cannot be re-elected due to term limits, is likely to earn the Republican nomination and challenge Democratic Senator Bill Nelson in a competitive race.

What's next?

A number of legends will return to WWE for the 25th anniversary of Monday Night Raw. Even though Hogan said that he will not return on January 22, 2018, it is certainly not out of the question.
