What's the story?

Wrestling Inc. is reporting on a recent interview that WWE Cruiserweight division Superstar Drew Gulak had with Sean Waltman on the X-Pac 12360 podcast. During this episode, they discussed a range of topics regarding his time in the Cruiserweight Division and 205 Live.

In case you didn't know...

Gulak began his professional wrestling career in 2005 with Combat Zone Wrestling; where he was their heavyweight champion once. During the X-Pac interview, Gulak mentioned current CZW talent Joey Janela as someone he would love to see in the WWE.

The heart of the matter

Waltman first discussed how much of his current character was of his creation, and Gulak said, "it's all me". Gulak mentioned that the creative team is very receptive to their ideas and working with them to get the most out of those ideas.

They also discussed Gulak's promos and if they are his own words or if they are scripted. Gulak revealed that it is mostly written for him, but they have the freedom to manipulate them and make it sound more natural.

"If something doesn't connect I'll speak up or if something doesn't' look right I have no problem mentioning it."

Finally, they would talk about Triple H taking over as the showrunner for 205 Live over the past couple of months. Gulak stated the following:

"I think originally it was his [Triple H] concept coming out of the Cruiserweight Classic. It was very much Triple H's idea to bring in a Cruiserweight division and build this brand up. And as soon as we came over, Vince was like 'hey this is great, let's run with it,' and he kinda took the ball and ran with it. Up until the last couple weeks, they basically went to the idea of basically having a tournament again to rechristen the new Cruiserweight Champion. That's pretty much been under the guide of Triple H."

What's next?

Gulak has made the final four in the WWE Cruiserweight Championships tournament, and the expectation is that he will face Mustafa Ali on the 20 March edition of 205 Live. Next week, two former Ring of Honor standouts, Roderick Strong and Cedric Alexander, will clash to find out who makes the finals and heads to WrestleMania.

Author's take

The breakthrough of Drew Gulak has been one of the best stories within the Cruiserweight Division in 2017, going into 2018. It's been great seeing the dorky side of him with the PowerPoint presentations but on the other side of the coin his vicious streak that has been shown throughout this tournament.

I have a good feeling Drew is going to WrestleMania to face Cedric Alexander for the championship, and even come out the winner.
