WWE News: Earl Hebner discusses a potential return to the WWE
What's the story?
Respected Pro Wrestling referee Earl Hebner was recently interviewed by Sports Illustrated during which the veteran Pro Wrestling official discussed a host of topics including a possible return to the WWE, in the future.
In case you didn't know...
Earl Hebner is considered one of the most respected referees in WWE history and is best known for his work in Vince McMahon's promotion.
Hebner made his WWE debut in 1988 in a match between Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant, for the WWE Championship.
The 68-year-old also was part of WWE's biggest and most controversial event, i.e, The Montreal Screwjob. Hebner made the toughest call of his career when he along with Vince McMahon decided to screw Bret Hart out of the WWE Championship match against Shawn Michaels during the 1997 Survivor Series.
Hebner was fired from the WWE in 2005, for selling WWE merchandise without the company's permission.
The heart of the matter
During his interview with Sports Illustrated, Hebner revealed that he is open to a possible WWE return in the future and claimed that he would love to return to the biggest wrestling promotion in the world someday.
The TNA Hall of Famer also stated that he would like to finish his career under Vince McMahon's company and also praised his former boss by saying that he [Vince McMahon] was always kind to him, and also helped Hebner by giving him a lot of opportunities throughout his career.
Hebner also claimed that he would like to officiate at least one more match for the WWE and would like to thank everyone related to the company, for giving him the chance to prove his worth.
"I would love to go back to WWE and finish my life in this business right there. Vince McMahon was always good to me, and he gave me the opportunity to be who I am and what I am. I would love to go back and, if nothing else, do one more match to say thank you very much for what you've done for me."- Hebner stated.
Hebner hasn't officiated many matches following his release from Impact Wrestling on November 3rd, 2017. Both Earl and his son Brian were released by Impact Wrestling last month.
However, as of right now, there hasn't been any such talks of a possible return to the WWE for Earl Hebner and it still remains as a mystery if WWE would ever like to resign their former top official.
In my opinion, Earl Hebner is one of the best referees to ever step foot into the WWE and personally, I would like to see him officiate one more time in WWE. Even though the matches are not about the referees, it would be nice to see him get a nostalgia pop from the WWE Universe.
