WWE News: Extreme rules match announced for NXT Takeover: Philadelphia

This is going to be a really brutal skull bashing contest

What's the story?

This week on WWE NXT, Adam Cole managed to cost Aleister Black and Roderick Strong the NXT Tag Team Championships, by interfering in their match. This led to General Manager William Regal coming out and making a huge announcement.

It has been officially announced that Adam Cole and Aleister Black will battle to the finish in an Extreme Rules match. While no title is on the line, this match has all the makings of a main-event marquee contest.

In case you didn't know...

With the injury to Drew McIntyre, Adam Cole and Aleister Black are perhaps the two biggest stars in the NXT roster right now, despite the fact that neither has held any gold in WWE.

One assumes that their match will determine who goes on to face the winner of the Johnny Gargano vs. Andrade 'Cien' Almas match for the NXT Championship, going forward.

The Extreme Rules stipulation was added after Adam Cole brought a chair to the ring and dropped Black on it.

The heart of the matter

Because there are only three Championships in the NXT brand right now (except for the United Kingdom title that is defended in rare occasions) and there are five matches in a televised Takeover card, two non-title matches almost invariably kickstart the show!

Adam Cole does not seem to be bothered by the stipulation and had some strong words for Aleister Black.

One must remember that the last time these two men faced one another, Black went over Adam Cole.

What's next?

We are only weeks away from Royal Rumble weekend. The build-up for this match should be quite intriguing, as always.

Author's take

I think Cole will defeat Black in this match. Because of the stipulation involved, I think Cole will play dirty and pick up a big win.

Black can be protected even in defeat, because of Cole's dirty tricks.
