What's the story?

WWE.COM conducted an online poll asking fans who they want to see Brock Lesnar face next for the Universal Championship, and Finn Balor led the poll by a huge margin.

In case you didn't know...

Finn Balor, who was the first ever Universal Champion has been stuck in a rut as of late. He was part of Team Raw in the traditional 5-on-5 elimination match at Survivor Series 2017 but was eliminated early on.

Brock Lesnar has held the Universal Championship ever since he defeated Goldberg for it at Wrestlemania 33 in April this year.

Brock has already retained the Championship in matches against Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman and a fatal-4 way including Joe, Roman and Finn.

The heart of the matter

According to reports, it was believed that Finn was next in line to face Brock for the Universal Championship at Royal Rumble. However, those plans were scrapped as Vince McMahon believed that Finn was not over enough to face Brock.

Going by this poll, it seems the chairman of the WWE has underestimated how much the fans like Finn Balor and would want to see him get a Title opportunity.

Finn Balor got 39% of the votes and was followed by Braun who got just 21% in comparison.

What's next?

It seems the fans have made their voice clear that they want to see Finn Balor compete against Brock, but the ultimate decision still rests in the hands of Vince McMahon and only if he feels that Finn is over enough will he give the go-ahead for this match.

It is an open secret that Roman Reigns will be facing Brock Lesnar for the Universal TItle at Wrestlemania 34. So regardless of who Brock faces, the Title will not be changing hands anytime before WrestleMania.

Even so, it would be great to see Finn get a well-deserved opportunity to regain the Universal Championship.

Author's take

Finn Balor is immensely talented and it is sad to see that he is not being utilised properly. Finn needs credibility to regain momentum and a stellar match with The Beast Incarnate could certainly do so.
