What’s the story?

WWE's first Universal Champion, Finn Balor, recently spoke with The Sun, where he revealed that he wants to be in an all Irish tag team with UFC star Conor McGregor or even face his fellow countryman.

Balor said that if the current UFC Lightweight champion decides to join WWE, then he would love to team up with McGregor for a match at Wrestlemania.

In case you didn’t know…

According to a recent report by British outlet The Sun, it seems that current UFC Lightweight Champion, Conor McGregor, could be in talks with WWE for a match at Wrestlemania 34 in New Orleans.

Both WWE and McGregor are yet to announce it officially, but if “The Notorious One” is to sign with Vince McMahon’s company then it would turn out to be one of the biggest signings ever in WWE's history.

The heart of the matter

In a recent interview with SunSport, Mcgregor’s fellow Irish countryman Finn Balor claimed that he would like to team up with the former UFC Featherweight champion when he signs for WWE.

“I hope there’s an opportunity for a story to emerge. We’re all looking forward to having Conor at WrestleMania,” said Balor.

Balor also said that he'd love to face McGregor or team up with him: “If I was given the opportunity to get in the ring beside Conor, or across the ring to face him, it would be huge for me."

Balor stated that he is someone who doesn’t like to wrap his head too much around rumours but said that he cannot keep himself away from a rumour that involves both McGregor and the WWE.

The former NXT champion also believes that McGregor is the biggest sports star on the planet right now and thinks that his signing would turn out to be a historic one for WWE.

Balor also added that “The Notorious One” would help WWE improve their ratings and is going to benefit everyone in the company. He then stated that sharing the ring with McGregor would be huge for him.

What’s next?

As for Finn Balor, he is currently in a feud with Bray Wyatt and it seems like the two men will face each other once again in the upcoming Raw PPV, TLC.

On the other hand, McGregor is still under a UFC contract and presumably will defend his Lightweight title for the first time against Tony Ferguson -- who recently became UFC’s interim LW champion.

Author’s take

Over the years, we have seen Brock Lesnar compete in a UFC octagon while being under a WWE contract; Ronda Rousey -- who is still a UFC employee -- also showed up at the recent Mae Young Classic tapings and had a faceoff against WWE’s Four Horsewomen.

Thus, there is a possibility that McGregor might eventually sign for WWE and participate in a match at the "Grandest Stage of them All".
