What's the story?

Earlier in the year, WWE had made the announcement that this year's Raw, which fell on Christmas Day, would not be taped in advance like other years, but broadcast live instead.

On Christmas Eve, Finn Balor took to Twitter, to talk about how hard it was for him to leave his family on Christmas Day.

In case you didn't know...

WWE announced earlier in the year that they would be broadcasting Raw Live on Christmas as well as on New Year's Day. Previously, when Raw or SmackDown Live fell on these two holidays, the show was taped a few days beforehand and then was broadcast on the day. The stars were allowed to spend the days with their families.

Given the hectic schedule that WWE stars have to follow they hardly get enough time off the road to spend with their family unless they are recovering from an injury. When WWE announced that Raw would be broadcast live for Christmas and New Year this festive season, the initial response of fans and the wrestling community was outrage. They were outraged on behalf of the wrestlers who were being forced to spend both the days away from their family.

This response was not similar to what Balor's mother told him when he had to leave for work on Christmas Eve.

The heart of the matter

Finn Balor took to Twitter to talk about how difficult it was for him to leave his family on Christmas Eve because he had to work on the Christmas Day Raw.

"Its always hard leaving home, even harder on Xmas eve."

What he said next, showed the world the reason that he was such a hard worker.

He explained how he apologised to his mother for having to leave so that he could wrestle on the next day's Raw. His mother told him that it was better than not being able to wrestle on Raw on Christmas Day. Her words changed the perspective on how he looked at the issue.

Balor's mother helping him to realise how lucky he was to be able to wrestle in WWE, shows the reason why Finn is such a hard worker, as he grew up with his mother guiding him.

What's next?

Raw is set to take place Live on Christmas Day and New Year.

Author's take

A WWE wrestler's life is not for everyone because they have to spend more than half the year on the road. It is difficult having to spend the festive season away from the family, but that is part and parcel of the life of a WWE star.
