What's the story?

Former WCW superstar Jeff Farmer was recently a guest on The Two Man Power Trip podcast, during which he discussed a host of wrestling related topics including his WCW run, joining NWO, participating in WarGames 1996 and more.

In case you didn't know...

Jeff Farmer first made his WCW debut in 1995, when he teamed up with Jim Steele and wrestled in a dark match. Famer's first year in WCW saw him portray a gimmick of a Gulf War sergeant known as Cobra.

However, in 1996, Farmer's Cobra gimmick was dropped and WCW decided to repackage the New York City native as NWO Sting, who was an imposter for the original Sting.

Farmer would also go on and take part in the 1996 WarGames match and would also pick up the win for Team NWO in the match.

The heart of the matter

During his interview with The Two Man Power Trip, Jeff Farmer talked about various wrestling topics, including his experience with WCW and more. Here are a few highlights:

The creation of NWO Sting:

Farmer revealed that he actually doesn't know who came up with the idea of NWO Sting and according to him, only Eric Bischoff can tell how the character came to the thought of the WCW creative. However, Farmer thought at the time that he was physically similar to the original Sting and the two were also similar in size and said that he wore contacts and also got a plaster mask out of the original Sting's face in order to get the accurate description of the face paint.

Joining the NWO:

Farmer said that him joining the NWO was definitely a great and believable angle, but he believes that the angle could have definitely been better. The former IWF Tag Team Champion also praised Lex Luger, who he claimed was very fun to work with.

“You also have to remember that I was also taking orders and just trying to do my best to pull this off. I knew it was a big deal but at the same time I was just going along with what Hogan and I think he was the one that had the whole idea of taking it where it went."- Farmer stated.

His participation in the 1996 WarGames match:

The 55-year-old said that night, was the most exciting night in wrestling for Farmer because everyone associated with that match did a great job to make it a grand success starting from the announcers, the referees, to the TV people in the back.

His thoughts on NWO Japan in NJPW:

Farmer said that the faction was becoming really popular in New Japan at the time and according to him one of the original plans was to send the likes of Hogan, Nash, and Hall to Japan because the New World Order was really heating up in NJPW. However, the trio of Hogan, Nash, and Hall did not want to get involved in the middle of something hot and instead it was Jeff Farmer [As imposter Sting], Buff Bagwell, and Scott Norton who were all sent to Japan instead of the NWO innovators.

What's next?

Jeff Farmer's last in-ring match took place back in 2005, he is now currently enjoying his retirement and his time off from Pro Wrestling.

Author's Take

I think the NWO Sting was a good concept when it was first introduced, however, Farmer's character lost a lot of relevance within a very short period of time, due to bogus WCW booking.
