What's the story?

Former WWE Diva Emma competed in her first Independent match this past weekend against former Impact Knockout Angelina Love at WrestlePro.

In case you didn't know...

Emma was released from WWE last year along with Summer Rae and Darren Young after it was revealed that the former NXT star had been the subject of a lot of heat backstage after her transformation in Emmalina earlier in the year didn't go to plan.

Emma has been off the radar over the past few months as she built up to her first match outside of the company in a number of years, but it seems that she could have easily slotted back into the Independent scene were she first found fame before she was signed to WWE back in 2012.

The heart of the matter

Emma managed to defeat Angelina Love in her first match on the Independent Circuit since her WWE release and was billed under her real name of Tenille Dashwood. Emma also sported new entrance music but wore the same ring attire that she became known for during her WWE run.

It's also worth noting that it is being reported that the door will be left open for Emma to return to WWE down the road, despite the reasons for her release back in November.

What's next?

Emma is already booked for a number of appearances on the Independent Circuit so it seems that she is managing to live off the hype of her five-year stint with the company for the time being. It would be interesting to see if Emma does make a return to WWE when the hype dies down.

Author's take

Emma was a fantastic wrestler and when she became a heel superstar she looked as though she was set to become one of Raw's top stars. Instead, she was chosen to be the first woman fed to Asuka on the main roster and it seems that was the end of her career in WWE. Hopefully, WWE gives her a second chance, because she was a woman with bags of potential but wasn't able to show this because of the booking team.
