What prompted his massive fight with Sin Cara?

What's the story?

Simon Gotch, currently performing under the name Simon Grimm, shared exclusive details of his famous locker room fight with Sin Cara. He revealed these details on the 'Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling' podcast, quite recently.

We'd like to thank Still Real to Us, for the transcript of the same. Here is an in-depth journey into the infamous incident.

In case you didn't know...

Even though he's a prominent figure in the world of independent wrestling, at the moment, Simon Gotch is perhaps known for being a former NXT Tag Team Champion, during his run with WWE. He was released from his WWE contract, earlier this year.

You may remember Gotch as a member of The Vaudevillains, the two men who represented a bygone era in the WWE.

The heart of the matter

How did a thrown Diet Coke become the cause for a massive backstage fight, between the two men?:

He threw a coke can at me. That was it. Basically he and I would go back and forth and throw sort of little digs at each other and I didn’t realize how sensitive he was.

When they were trading verbal digs at one another, Gotch would hit a nerve with Sin Cara and this sparked a fight between the two superstars:

As I’m piecing it together I smell Diet Coke, why is my shirt wet? And as my vision started to clear I see Jorge running from around the table and he tried to do almost a double leg and out of instinct I reached around his neck and shoot head locked him.

The two men struggled for some fifteen seconds until those present backstage pulled them apart from one another, at that point.

What's next?

Sin Cara received a push on SmackDown Live recently before an injury unfortunately stopped his momentum for good. As for Gotch, he's found success in the independents. Both men seem better off than they were then.

Author's take

I've always wondered what the fight was about. It was cool to see that Simon Gotch was so candid about the matter, revealing every detail. Yet another bit of wrestling mystery, comes to light.
