What's the story?

This week's episode of SmackDown Live aired from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. It featured a tag team match between the teams of Randy Orton and Jeff Hardy taking on the The Miz and Shelton Benjamin, as well as a Women's main event tag team match.

During SmackDown, former WWE Superstar Elijah Burke was present backstage and clicked a photo with Byron Saxton, which he then posted on Twitter.

In case you didn't know...

Elijah Burke is known for his runs in WWE and Impact Wrestling, back when it was known as TNA. He worked with WWE on the main roster between 2006 to 2008. He worked both as part of a tag team and singles action.

His run on the main roster was unremarkable, and the highlight came when he feuded with the then World Heavyweight Champion, Batista. He won several Championships when he was in Ohio Valley Wrestling, which was WWE's developmental territory during that time but was not successful in his pursuit of gold on the main roster before his release.

Burke was more successful in his run with Impact Wrestling and worked at a higher level on the card. He had two runs in Impact, with his last run ending in 2017.

The heart of the matter

Elijah Burke clicked a picture with a seemingly awestruck Byron Saxton. He posted the picture on Twitter, pretending not to have recognized Saxton. He called him The Rock instead and continued the charade saying that he was surprised he was bigger than The Rock physically, but perhaps that was only because The Rock was slimming down for a film role.

He ended by saying,

"Class act! Nonetheless anytime you have your picture taken with greatness you must share it with the world. ~PHS"

What's next?

Elijah Burke is currently seemingly unattached to any wrestling promotion.

Author's take

Though Elijah Burke is not attached with any other wrestling promotion currently, it is unlikely that WWE will sign him. This seems more like a one-time thing where he came backstage to see his old stomping grounds.
