WWE News: Former WWE Superstar Zach Gowen going strong on the indy circuit, posts video

Gowen had a memorable feud with Vince McMahon

What’s the story?

Former WWE Superstar Zach Gowen recently posted a video of him performing a “Ninja Destroyer” on his opponent during an independent show titled "XICW Detroit". The video was posted on Twitter and can be seen below:

The event and Gowen’s performance received much praise on Twitter from fans of the promotion.

In case you didn’t know...

Zach Gowen has been a part of the WWE roster in the past and has also featured in TNA. Gowen was noted for being the first amputee professional wrestler, having had his left leg amputated at the age of 8 due to complications stemming from cancer.

Gowen’s tenure with the WWE lasted a little less than a year and saw him have memorable feuds with Brock Lesnar and Vince McMahon. Gowen was released due to backstage issues and had subsequently fallen prey to alcohol and drug addiction.

Gowen was then taken into a WWE-sponsored rehabilitation program and successfully completed it in 2011. Gowen has since gone on to become a certified DDP Yoga Instructor and a motivational speaker while continuing his sporadic appearances on the independent wrestling circuit.

The heart of the matter

Zach Gowen was performing at the Detroit event of Xtreme Intense Championship Wrestling (XICW) on a card that also featured fellow former WWE Superstars such as Yoshi Tatsu and Shane Douglas. The show also featured Lucha Underground star Joey Ryan and former TNA star Johnny Devine.

It appears that Gowen was in a tag team match against current XICW Tag Team Champions “The Monroes”, comprising of Malcolm Monroe III, also known as M3, and DBA. Gowen posted a video of himself performing the Canadian Destroyer, which he refers to as the “Ninja Destroyer”, on M3 as well as his finisher, the “ZachPlex”

The result of the match is unclear, but it appears that The Monroes retained their titles, given that they’re still listed as the champions on the XICW website.

What’s next?

Although Zach Gowen hasn’t notified his Twitter followers about any future appearances as of yet, he is taking bookings on the independent circuit and will most likely be having future appearances very soon.

Author’s take

It is good to see Zach Gowen doing well for himself on the independent wrestling circuit. The man has been a life-long warrior and has battled numerous demons including cancer and drug addiction.

I would love for nothing more than to see Gowen back in the WWE some day. He’s truly an inspiration and I’m sure that the WWE Universe will see him in the same light. Here’s wishing Gowen all the best for his future!
