WWE News: Four names confirmed for Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal will feature the best talents from the RAW and Smackdown roster

What’s the story?

The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal will be a part of the Wrestlemania extravaganza for the fourth time in a row. The event will feature a host of RAW and SmackDown superstars vying for one of the most celebrated prizes at the Grandest Stage of Them All.

As of this writing, only four names out of the thirty competitors have been revealed.

This has led to a lot of speculation with regards to the remaining Superstars who will participate in the event. With just six days left for Wrestlemania, the excitement levels have peaked, and the WWE Universe is awaiting further news on the remaining participants for the Battle Royal.

In case you didn’t know...

The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal has become a significant aspect of Wrestlemania. The first edition of the Battle Royal was won by Cesaro, while the Big Show took the honours of winning the second.

Last year at the biggest Wrestlemania of all time in terms of attendance, Baron Corbin launched his WWE main roster campaign with a win in the prestigious event in front of a stacked AT&T Stadium.

The heart of the matter

As of now, four names have been announced for the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. These names include three Superstars from Smackdown LIVE and one from RAW. Mojo Rawley, Curt Hawkins and Apollo Crews will be competing from the blue brand, while the Big Show is the sole entrant from the red brand, as of now.

Big Show was earlier advertised to face Shaquille O’Neal in a high profile singles match, but that plan did not come to fruition. As a result, the World’s Largest Athlete was also drafted into the Battle Royal.

What’s next?

Many names can be added to the match. The likes of Samoa Joe, Sami Zayn, Goldust, R-Truth, Dolph Ziggler, Braun Stroman have no matches listed on the main card, and there is a possibility that they are going to fill the ring for the Battle Royal.

A surprise return in the form of Finn Balor may also be added to the card given that the Demon King has been performing at house shows for a while now.

Author's take

The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal was started at Wrestlemania XXX to honour the spirit and Legacy of Andre the Giant. With just three stars who can boast of winning the event, the winner of this elusive prize can boast of an added laurel in their list of achievements.

The Battle Royal event was relegated to the pre-show in its second edition to make time for a live performance. The prestigious event made its way back to the main card last year, where Barbon Corbin eliminated Kane, thus winning the match.
