WWE News: Gail Kim on the controversy with Stephanie McMahon and a possible WWE return

Kim is a TNA Hall of Famer

What’s the story?

A recent edition of Busted Open featured Gail Kim, Dave LaGreca and Bubba Ray Dudley aka Bully Ray. Kim spoke on a myriad of topics, addressing Stephanie McMahon’s controversial tweet regarding the Women’s Revolution, Charlotte Flair being the best in the world right now, as well as a potential return to WWE.

In case you didn’t know...

Gail Kim-Irvine is a 17-year veteran of the professional wrestling industry and has most notably performed for the WWE and TNA (now re-branded as Impact Wrestling).

The 40-year old TNA Hall-of-Famer is a former WWE Women’s champion, 6-time TNA Knockouts champion and apart from several other accomplishments in the sport, has also featured on Forbes’ top 40 list of ‘America’s Most Eligible Bachelorettes’.

The heart of the matter:

Kim has been out-of-action owing to an injury and recently revealed that she’s very much still an active performer and will be back after rehabilitating her body. Here are a few excerpts from her conversation regarding her stance on the Women’s Revolution, WWE and more-

“When I saw that (Stephanie’s tweet) it’s kind of frustrating because, yes, I feel Hunter (Triple H) did do a lot for women in NXT…They (Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Bayley) did revolutionize Women’s Wrestling by using the power of social media. But before that the ‘Evolution’ of Women’s Wrestling came from Impact Wrestling/TNA…Charlotte, Sasha, Becky and Bayley they’ve pretty much put their mark on the business. I support those girls a hundred percent, a million percent. Those girls are doing what I wanted to do back then.”

“Charlotte Flair (stands out to me)…the way she’s progressed over the years, in her confidence, her gear everything, she’s now the complete package. And mind you because we’re in a business, we hear about people and their work-ethic, their personalities- whether they’re well-liked and respected, and that plays a factor into everything…Really good girl. You know she’s got hard shoes to fill. The people who come as (children of) successful second generation wrestlers, it’s just hard for them to fill those shoes…And she (Charlotte) has done an awesome job. I mean that would be a dream match for me.”

Kim alluded to the fact that even though she may be a tad past her prime as of today, given her injury issues, she’d still love to wrestle Charlotte in the near future. Furthermore, in her conversation with Bully Ray, she added that although she would never say never on a potential return to WWE, her loyalty lies with Impact Wrestling.

What’s next?

Gail Kim revealed in March of this year that although she’s no longer under contract with Impact Wrestling, she does intend to return to the promotion after recovering from her injury.

Author’s take:

Gail Kim is one of the most legendary pro-wrestlers of all time, and I, for one, agree with her assessment that every generation of female wrestlers deserves their due credit.

The WWE’s Four Horsewomen Charlotte, Sasha, Becky and Bayley may be great performers as of today, but by no means does that give Stephanie McMahon or anyone else the right to discredit the preceding lot of female performers. See you back in the Impact Zone soon Gail!
