What's the story?

The fallout from NXT Takeover: Phoenix has resulted in WWE bringing back an old program that was created in the Attitude Era.

Aleister Black, Ricochet & Velveteen Dream will face Adam Cole, Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa next Sunday during the halftime show of the SuperBowl.

In case you didn't know...

WWE Heat was an additional television show that the company launched in August 1998 and was the second primary program the company had on TV before SmackDown's creation the following year.

The program featured a variety of WWE superstars, but their most memorable moment was the WWE Championship match between Mankind & The Rock in January 1999 during the halftime show of Super Bowl XXXIII.

WWE Heat was retired in 2008 but will make its return next week during the halftime show of this year's Super Bowl, which will feature the New England Patriots versus the Los Angeles Rams.

The heart of the matter

The match was made following the brawl that broke out after Takeover: Phoenix went off the air. Dream came out to confront Gargano & Ciampa and was interrupted by Cole.

Black would make his way up the ramp to confront Ciampa which brought out Ricochet and lead to a massive brawl that made its way backstage and was broken up by Triple H.

Cole, Ricochet and Gargano have all competed for the NXT North American Championship since the title's creation last year while the NXT Championship was the focus of the feud between Black and Ciampa with all the other members of the six-man tag team match competing for the title as well.

What's next?

The Super Bowl halftime show will be headlined by the U.S. pop group Maroon 5 and will feature rappers Travis Scott and Big Boi. The show is expected to start around 8:30-9 p.m. E.T.

With the revival of WWE Heat, the members of the NXT roster have another opportunity to showcase their abilities and prove why they are one of the most beloved brands in WWE.
