What's the story?

WWE has confirmed Roman Reigns' place in the Royal Rumble match on Twitter just days before the event with many wondering whether or not the winner of the 2015 Rumble match would be taking part in their year's event.

In case you didn't know...

Roman Reigns lost his Intercontinental Championship to The Miz on Monday Night Raw as WWE celebrated their 25th Anniversary. The Miz himself has already declared himself in The Rumble even though he already has a Championship, but it seems that Reigns has left it to the last minute.

Roman was the runner-up in the 2014 Royal Rumble after he was eliminated by Batista, who later went on to face Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton in the main event of WrestleMania 30. Reigns then won the match in 2015 and went on to face Brock Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania 31 where Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and cost him the Championship.

The Big Dog then was forced to defend his Championship in The Royal Rumble back in 2016 in a match that was later won by Triple H, before he entered last year's Rumble at number 30, much to the disdain of the WWE Universe.

It seems that Reigns has a storied history in the Rumble over the past four years and it seems that he could be set to make waves once again this year.

The heart of the matter

WWE officially declared that Roman Reigns will be part of The Royal Rumble event on Twitter a few hours ago and it seems that he has now become one of the favorites to win the match since it is already known that Reigns is set to wrestle Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 34.

What's next?

The 31st annual Royal Rumble match takes place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Sunday night. Roman has finally secured his place, but it will be interesting to see what number he draws.

Author's take

Roman Reigns was always going to be in the Rumble match, he doesn't have another match on the card, but even when he did last year and was put through a table by Braun Strowman, he was still able to take part. Reigns hasn't missed a Rumble since 2014 so we all knew he would take his place. The question now is whether or not it will be a second win for The Big Dog on Sunday night as he looks to finally slay The Beast at WrestleMania.
