WWE News: Jerry Lawler returns to SmackDown this week

The King is in the building

WWE veteran Jerry Lawler returned to the SmackDown commentary team during this week’s tapings in Toledo, Ohio. Lawler was suspended indefinitely after he and his 27-year-old girlfriend Lauryn McBride were taken into custody on June 17th over domestic violence charges.

The charges were dropped and Lawler was reinstated after it was speculated that neither of them wanted to testify against each other. The incident took place in the couple’s home in Memphis, Tennessee.

What sparked off as an argument soon escalated into physical violence. Lawler claimed that McBride scratched his face and kicked him in the groin and the latter told police that she was hit on the head and pushed against a stove.

According to McBride’s alarming statement, her partner brought a pistol into the kitchen, placed it on the counter and told her to kill herself. Lawler denied it, saying that McBride was the one who brought the gun into the room. Mercifully, the gun was empty.

Lawler’s longtime broadcast partner and friend Jim Ross stated his belief that it it was just a drunken scuffle between the two and that Lawler wasn’t someone who would deign to violence.

Former WWE Tag Team Champion David Otunga filled in for the Hall Of Famer in his absence.
