WWE News: Jerry Lawler to be phased out of WWE programming

Will Jerry “The King” Lawler’s commentating stint end after 15 glorious years?

As per the reports of Wrestlingnews.co, Jerry “The King” Lawler has been phased out of weekly WWE programming. He will no longer be hosting pre-shows, main shows or PPVs, following the decision by the WWE Officials.

The 67-year-old retired professional wrestler was a constant at the WWE flagship show, RAW. The pre-shows of Monday Night RAW are now being hosted by Charly Caruso and Booker T.

Post brand split, Lawler moved to the newly reinstated SmackDown Live. The King is still under a Legends contract. Therefore he can still make occasional appearances and can play a role on the WWE Network or even host a WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, in the near future.

According to the same reports, WWE is looking forward to shaking things up a bit by featuring more guest hosts on the pre-show panels before pay-per-views.

Furthermore, the addition of Tom Phillips to SmackDown Live, commentary team, has led to the speculations that Phillips might replace someone, and that someone could very well be Jerry “The King” Lawler.

The reports of his departure first surfaced in January of last year, with Wrestling Observer reporting that Lawler might be released, following his domestic troubles and the heart attack he suffered on air, right after a wrestling match he had on the same night.

The King recalls having a heart attack during Raw, on WWE Network.

Earlier in the month, a series of Tweets posted by WWE analyst, Justin LaBar, also sparked rumours of Mauro Ranallo leaving WWE.

However, the Canadian sports announcer and commentator was quick to put an end to the speculation and stated that he still has a number of years left on his WWE contract.
