What's the story?

Jim Ross was in attendance for The Greatest Royal Rumble a few weeks ago and it appears that the legendary commentator has a huge regret from the event.

In case you didn't know...

Jim Ross has commentated on some of the biggest matches in the history of WWE, but most recently he was part of WrestleMania 34's pre-show alongside his commentary partner Jerry Lawler. Ross has worked for a number of companies in recent years which includes World of Sport in the UK, but it appears that WWE has now signed the legend to a contract that prevents him from returning to the UK and being part of the reboot of the show.

This contract allows Ross to still work for the WWE which included his surprise appearance at WrestleMania 34 when he commentated on the fifth annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royale.

The heart of the matter

Ross was one of the legends that the company invited to be part of the proceedings in Jeddah last month but it appears that he has one huge regret from the historic show.

Ross spoke to his friend Jerry Lawler about the event as part of a recent episode of The Jim Ross Report, where he revealed that he would have liked to have been able to call a match with Lawler since he doesn't know when he will get the opportunity to do so again.

"I wish we would have had the chance to call one match," Ross said courtesy of Wrestling Inc "And I think, hopefully, the guys – Cole, and Graves, and Byron – could have used that match to go refresh themselves, so to speak. You know, really. Stretch your legs, go to the bathroom, and we could have done one match. I think we would have done great. But, that was not the call, or the plays that were run by the coach, so we do what we did. But that's my only regret that we didn't get to call a match, I'd like to have done one match with you in Saudi."

What's next?

Ross hasn't been able to return to World of Sport as part of their most recent tapings because of his contract with WWE, but it is thought that he will appear in a familiar position on WWE TV again in the near future.

Author's take

Jim Ross changes matches with his uncanny ability behind the announce table, but WWE has a number of credible commentators right now, which could be why he wasn't featured on the historic show. It would be nice to see Ross back behind that desk in the near future if WWE allows it.
