What’s the story?

The WWE has posted a video on its official Instagram page, featuring a promo by Jinder Mahal which hints that his WWE Championship rematch tonight may be cancelled.

Mahal alluded that although his WWE title rematch for tonight’s episode of SmackDown may be cancelled, he will indeed receive another chance at the belt very soon—

In case you didn’t know…

Jinder Mahal shocked the world by defeating Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at Backlash earlier this year. Although the Modern Day Maharaja was rumoured to be keeping the belt until the WWE tours India this December, Mahal dropped the WWE Championship to AJ Styles before Survivor Series.

In reference to the same, WWE was initially advertising a WWE Championship match between AJ Styles and Jinder Mahal for this week’s episode of SmackDown Live.

The heart of the matter

While hyping future showdowns with AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar, Jinder Mahal criticised the WWE Champion for losing to Universal Champion Lesnar at Survivor Series, calling Styles a disappointment to the SmackDown brand. Here are a few excerpts of his statements—

“You (AJ Styles) were conquered, you were victimized, you were beaten by the Beast; I am the true ‘Beast Master’. And someday I will prove that!”

“But very soon I will become two-time WWE Champion. So when and where the Modern Day Maharaja re-invokes his rematch clause has yet to be seen, but I promise you that there will be gold around this waist very soon."

What’s next?

Jinder Mahal is likely to win the WWE Championship before WWE’s tour of India, owing to the fact that the promotion has been advertising the Maharajah as a two-time WWE Champion for the past several weeks.

Author’s take

Jinder Mahal is one of the most underrated performers in the sport today and deserves the respect of the professional wrestling fans and pundits alike.

His reign as WWE Champion will age well, and rather than having a snarky attitude towards Mahal’s dominance in the WWE, fans would be better off enjoying the show as it is.
