What’s the story?

While the former-John Morrison has had a career resurgence, both as a wrestler (as Johnny Mundo in Lucha Underground) and as an actor, the time he spent in WWE wasn’t exactly anything to sneeze at. Morrison held numerous titles in WWE, including some big championships. So, why did he decide to leave? He explained that it was partly because several of his ideas were shot down by creative on an episode of X-Pac’s podcast.

The background

Where is The Big Show today? He tells us HERE

Morrison had a pretty nice singles run leading up to his eventual departure in 2011. He had an Intercontinental championship reign and managed to incorporate his Parkour skills into his matches; he was even featured in high profile match at WrestleMania XVII and the main event of SummerSlam 2011. However, Morrison decided not to renew his contract because he wanted to heal from his injuries.

The heart of the matter

On Waltman’s podcast, Morrison revealed a couple of gimmick match ideas that he pitched to Vince McMahon and creative, all of which were shot down.

On a “Tanning Bed Match” vs Sheamus: “[E]very week I’d pitch something like, ‘I want to have a tanning bed match with Sheamus, loser gets locked in a tanning bed...I pitched the tanning bed idea to Vince (McMahon) and he laughed at it. I don’t know if he even thought I was serious. ..I wanted him (Sheamus) to come out looking like Brother Love covered in that red stuff.”

On a “Porta-Potty Match” vs The Miz: “I want to have a Porta Potty match with the Miz, to win you have to close someone in the Porta Potty and knock it over. I pitched these. I pitched all these ideas. It makes sense why like why you couldn’t do them”

While Morrison admits he can see why those ideas weren’t used, he cites his ideas continuously being turned down as one of the reasons he left WWE.

What’s next?

Morrison doesn’t seem like he’s going to leave Lucha Underground anytime soon (stranger things have happened, though), and the show’s taping schedule gives him time to take on more acting roles. If heads back to WWE anytime soon, it’ll most likely be on his terms or not at all.

Author’s take

It’s understandable that someone working in a creative business can be frustrated when their ideas aren’t being considered – even if those ideas are kind of goofy. But, it seems like Morrison is in a pretty good place career-wise right now, and who knows? Maybe one day he’ll be pitching match ideas in the WWE once again.

Oh, also, apparently somebody put two and two together and put Sheamus in a tanning bed.
